Welcome Helen Quinn, Director Joint Research Office

Message from Andrew Hattersley, NHS R&D Director

“It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Helen Quinn as the Director of the new NHS/University Joint Office for Clinical Research. A post which is jointly funded by the RD&E NHS Trust and the University of Exeter.

Quinn H 2 251x251

We are developing the Joint Office to ensure that all research with patients will follow the same efficient and robust pathway with a single point of entry, research governance and monitoring regardless of whether the research is organised by Hospital or University employees. The Joint Office will facilitate, encourage and promote the continued expansion of both commercial and non-commercial clinical research and trials. The overall aim of this will be to increase excellent research in Exeter by working with local, national and international companies, charities and individuals.

To achieve this we will involve all staff in the NHS and the University who are currently supporting the research process from initial idea to post award monitoring. The considerable expertise available in Exeter will be invaluable to continue to improve the services available. Helen, Andrew Hattersley (NHS R&D director) and Angela Shore (University Vice Dean Research) will work with current staff to establish an efficient and effective joint office. We are not envisaging any changes in our current staff but rather a change in understanding and an emphasis to support joint working.

Helen will take up her position on the 5th November 2018 seconded from the Clinical Research Network South West Peninsula. Pauline McGlone has been appointed to the interim COO role for CRN SWP to cover Helens absence.”
